Stupid ladybird larvae
I discovered the lid to my compost bin was swarming with ladybird larvae so thought I'd transfer them to my honeysuckle to eat the aphids there. Using a small paint brush I transferred a few to a cup and then on to the honeysuckle. When I looked on the ground I noticed that they had all fallen off. No matter how carefully I transferred them, they would walk around on the leaves for a bit then just fall off.
I was trying to work out why this was happening...
a) They didn't like the honeysuckle and were choosing to drop off it.
b) The waxy leaves of the honeysuckle were too slippery for them
c) They had spent their entire lives on the surface of a piece of plastic and had not learned how to walk around a complex 3D structure (that was moving ever so slightly in a gentle breeze).
Any thoughts???????
